Finishing Off

The finishing touches still involved a lot of work.  Outside required the digging of a large soakaway, well away from the house under the front lawn to take all the water from both the front and back of the main roof and the extension roof.  Pipes to the soakaway were routed around the outside under the new path around the perimeter of the extension.  The level of the house and extension was about 2ft lower than that of the garage and driveway.  The grass area to the right of the extension was dug back to form a low bank, and steps were built up from the new side gate to the drive.  Steps were also required to give access to the side garage door from the passageway between the extension and garage.

Inside, the electrics were wired for the rooms of the extension, including outside lights at the front and back.  The main fuse and meter box was moved by the electricity board from next to the kitchen door (now inside) to the outside front wall of the extension.  This was connected to a new contact breaker unit inside supplying the extension and connected to the original main fuse box in the kitchen via a chunky 30 Amp cable.  This meant very little disturbance to the wiring in the main house.  The ceilings then were boarded and skirting board, door frames and doors fitted.  The floors were screed ready for ceramic tiles and the walls and ceilings plastered.  Job complete for the builders!

It was by now mid November, so none too soon to have the new boiler fitted which had to be relocated from the kitchen to the other side of the wall.  Unused heating pipes in the kitchen were routed through the wall to feed two new radiators in each room of the extension.
